TOPIC: THE LIFE OF JACOB
TEXT: HEBREWS 11: 20
The men of faith of the old testament believed on the promise of God. They obtain good report by Faith. The redemptive plan of God was conceived in the old testament, even in the act or experience of the old patriarch. It is then rightly unveil by the revelation of Christ Jesus.
Jacob being part of the old patriarch, never acknowledge God at the beginning of his life. He lives base on his wisdom. He cheated his brother Esau. He operated in unbelieve. God told him that He’s with him, He will keep him and He will not leave him. Instead of believing the promise of God, he thought he could work out God’s promises by his effort through his vow (Genesis 28:10-22). Jacob choice Rachel by his self desire. He had worst experience but never ends his life that way.
Gen. 32.24 – And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
Gen. 32.25 – And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
Gen. 32.26 – And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
Gen. 32.27 – And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
Gen. 32.28 – And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
Gen. 32.29 – And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
Gen. 32.30 – And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
The above verses is the expression of the life of Jacob. He struggled with God and cheated men. He was later conquered by a man and the experience made him helpless and in need of God. This mark a new beginning in his life.
God is always ready to accept everyone that decided to receive him. God accepted Jacob but he couldn’t undo his mistakes. Never wait to waste the days of your life. God is ready for you make a decision to walk with Him today and you will never regret taking this step.
