THEME: THE BEATITUDES

TOPIC: BLESSED ARE THEY WHICH DO HUNGER AND THIRST AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS.

TEXT: MATTHEW 5:6

As early stated that BEATITUDES are the characters and habits of a growing Christian.

Food and water are basic needs of human and it is essential and very important for existence. These should be taken on regular basis for normal functioning of man. Improper taken of these lead to thirst and hunger.

Righteousness means right standing with God, holy, justify, sacred, upright, not corrupt, not dishonor.

Jesus Christ quoted that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceed out of the mouth of God ( Matt 4:4). Deeply inside man, there is an emptiness that nothing can feel except God. This make man to always feel unsatisfied.

Eccl.3.10 – I have seen the painful labor and exertion and miserable business which God has given to the sons of men with which to exercise and busy themselves.

Eccl.3.11 – He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men ‘s hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

God planted eternity in men’s heart that nothing can fill except him. This make man to always look for what will satisfy. Men thought it is how they gather wealth, attain position, drinking alcohol and some immoral act that will full this eternity. Each man heart knows it own bitterness ( proverb 14: 10).

Case study: The Samaria woman (John 4:5-21)

Jesus could see that the woman is looking for what could filled the emptiness in her. She moved from one husband to another thinking that through it she could find satisfaction. This is an example of how people labour to fill this in them. It have been destined that only Christ can fill it. (John 6:26-65, John 7:37-38).

This satisfaction is through accepting Christ. This is by salvation. The understanding of salvation makes man to be fill. Christ minister to this woman that he can give her an eternal water that she would drink and won’t be thirsty again. The woman won’t fill thirsty because the water will become a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

It is on the acceptance of Christ that can quench this thirst.
