DAY 14 – THE SECRET OF WATCHING
Jesus told His disciples to watch and pray. Prayer involves attentiveness and full mental alert. Jesus exhortation to watch were especially linked to His return to earth. No one knows when He will return to the earth, so we need to be vigilant and stay alert so that when he comes he will find us watching. Jesus return will be like that of a man going to a far place and left his house to in the care of his servants. If he returned suddenly, and find the servants mismanaging his house, he will be disappointed and will punish them. Jesus is going to return like a thief and only those that are alert, watching will notice the subtle signs he gives of His return.
The Lord call us to be alert to the hour in which we live and to discern signs of our times. He expects us to have understanding and awareness concerning this day. To fulfill mandate, we need to apply attentiveness to the secret place. Watching does not just involve wide eye looking. It involves being attentive.
The characteristics of the secret place involve;
1. We sharpen our spiritual senses to heavens promptings
2. We interpret current events through the lens of God’s word
3. We make note of those portions and themes of scripture which the Spirit has been currently revealing.
4.We quiet our heart long enough to listen
5.We gaze with rapt attention upon the throne of God.
6.We constantly calibrate our souls and minds to the straight ways of the Lord.
7.We get rid of all spiritual sleepiness by being ignited and renewed in love.
There are times that we just need to pause to ask questions in our secret places, ask God for his plan for that day, what revelation does He have for us. Then we wait upon Him for insight and understanding.
To be able to discern, we need to always read the word of God.
Only the alert ones will notice the subtle signs of Jesus coming.
The secret place is the place to fulfill the words of Christ.
To watch and pray is the great secret to being ready for the imminent return of the lover of your soul.
